A new face in our
household:
Runt
(her call name from her original owner)
or
Squeaky
(from her high pitched squeaks when she yawns)
(and, the first call name that perked up her ears...)

After the shocking
loss of Augie we thought we'd take a chance at a
"rescue" dog especially since our situation lends itself to accommodating
large and giant breeds. Petfinder
led us to Rest
My Paws, one of the Atlanta area
Pyrenees Rescue groups; her owner was headed overseas and she needed a home.
Runt is 8 years old, 3/4 Saint Bernard and 1/4 Pyr, originally from Washington
State.
Todd raised her from the time she was 5 weeks old until he left for Afghanistan
where we assume he'll work as a civilian contractor.
Fostering an 8 yr
old isn't without it's own risks but so far we think things are
on the right track. She's definitely a "pet me" dog and that
fills our current void
very well...hopefully we'll give her what she needs during her separation from
Todd.
Autumn Update 2004

For what
seems to have been a mostly "inside" life, Squeaky has really adapted
to "life on the farm".
The past few weeks she's been barking at the appropriate "varmints"
with Diego in a team fashion,
sleeping (by choice) outside at night on the dog beds on the front
porch,
and showing an "in general" air of confidence in her new surroundings
...and...her personality is beginning to bloom for us...

And then, just like
that, she was gone. She lived here for four years and four weeks and made our
place her home.
Suddenly on the evening of July 18th Squeaky went into acute respiratiry distress
and in a matter of several hours, despite the direct
efforts of our masterful veterinarian, she passed out of this world. Cause is
still unknown but surely age was a factor since she was
very near to her 12th birthday (even though she still looked like a 6 year old).
